Editorial Illustration

In my Illustration class, aka Art 210, we did an editorial illustration project. This had a very quick turnaround, 2 weeks. We had to choose an article to read and create an illustration for. I chose the article about pulping of the rainforests in Asia, http://dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/08/activism-at-its-best-greenpeaces-push-to-stop-the-pulping-of-rain-forests/.

I did have a little trouble getting this how I wanted it, because my first idea did not work :P But here it is!

WPA Poster

This project in my Illustration class, aka Art 210, we did a modern day WPA poster project. During the USA’s last big economic troubles, the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project employed thousands of artists to communicate the government’s hopeful outlook to the citizens. WPA posters were posted in stores, bus stops, public offices to tell people, “Things will get better. Here’s how to help!” The point of our posters are to be to raise awareness about a subject. We had to have some characteristics of the older posters, whether it was the typeface, or color pallet. I chose to do my poster on smoking, and deaths per year as a result of smoking cigarettes.

First Project Overviews

As the first week of school has ended, I have started on my projects for my design classes already! WHOO! For both my 225 class and 210 (Digital page design and Illustration) we are doing animal projects. For my illustration class we are making line, gestalt and closed shape illustrations of an animal of our choosing. I chose to do the Adelie Penguin. When I think of a penguin I think of the iconic cartoon black and white penguin, which mostly resembles the Adelie Penguin. Emperor Penguins have yellow on them, therefore I dont think of them as the most iconic penguin. You can see below some of my process work for that project. :)

The project for 225 (I have yet to start), will be info graphics about an animal of our choosing. Which, of course I will also be using the Adelie Penguin :) Penguins are my favorite animal, and I am happy I can include them in my school work.
